Greetings gentle reader and welcome to another installment of the Sunday Morning Movie. Today it’s a tragedy with a touch of comedy,Betrayal:

    Løperjenten (1981)

And next week’s film, The Eccentrics:

    Sherekilebi (1974)

    Reviews of Betrayal:

    Letterboxd says:

A feminine movie seen mostly through the eyes of little Kamilla (some close-ups on her reminds me of Alice by Svankmajer) in search of certainties when faced with the harsh reality of her disgregating family. The other less obvious perspective is from Lisa (Vibeke L.) dealing with her abusing husband while taking care of Kamilla. The neighborhood is full of women trying to make ends meet. There are quite a few lighthearted moments, but the entire movie is a tragic tribute to women’s patience and perseverance. To watch along another norwegian movie: “Liten Ida” by Laila Mikkelsen (both 1981)

    and

shows the disintegration of families in a post war society quietly, but still fully felt by kamilla. she copes with it through her bond with her friend. her own mother’s struggles and her father’s callous treatment towards everything bleeds into influencing her actions and decisions as would be expected of any child.

    My take:

A sad tale told from the perspective of a young girl who is watching her family disintegrate while her society rebuilds itself. She desperately searches for stability and finds it only in her best friend, a young boy with familial problems of his own. You feel compassion for the two as their worlds come crashing down around their heads. There are moments of levity, but they only serve to punctuate the despair that hangs over the children’s heads. A film worth watching but only once for me: ⭐.

    Director: Vibeke Løkkeberg

    Writer: Vibeke Løkkeberg

    Plot: (Spoilers!):

Young Kamilla lives in a world of chaos. Her parents are spendthrifts. They are at each other’s throats. Kamilla is constantly on unsteady ground.

Her best friend is a young boy named Svein. They engage in a number of adventures together. They are each other’s sanctuary.

Alas, it’s not fated to last. Svein is swept away to an orphanage. Kamilla is alone.

Our Lady of the Sphere (1968) – Larry Jordan – Experimental Film – Full Movie

The experimental film features ambiguous characters (a boy, a deep-sea diver and a mystical lady with a orbital head) on a surrealist dream-like journey full of various imagery through juxtaposed with symbols and images from themes such as antiquity to the space age, accompanied by alternating backgrounds, before the film ends in a garden.
In 2010, it was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.

I 1947. Forgotten Film Exposed How Nazis Recruited Their Neighbors

This film was made by the government, by the US War Department, distributed throughout America in 1947, after World War II. There was an active left wing and right wing movement in the United States and the government wanted to warn American citizens about the both of them. It’s a powerful film and in surprising ways, reflects upon the “sides” debating the future of America today. That is why I present it on my channel. now

The film was called “Don’t Be a Sucker”. It is a notable piece of historical media, crafted to educate the American public on the perils of fascism and its ideology, and to promote unity and understanding among diverse political, racial, social groups within the USA.

W.C. Fields as You’ve NEVER Seen Him Before…Talent Personified

This outtake, from the 1934 movie, The Old Fashioned Way, shows W.C. Fields as The Great McGonigle, a showman extraordinaire. Here we see him doing his amazing juggling, a talent which actually helped him succeed on the Vaudeville circuit, long before he became a motion picture star.

The 1939–40 New York World’s Fair was a world’s fair held at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York, United States. It was the second-most expensive American world’s fair of all time, exceeded only by St. Louis’s Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. Many countries around the world participated in it, and over 44 million people attended its exhibits in two seasons.[2] It was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of “Dawn of a New Day”, and it allowed all visitors to take a look at “the world of tomorrow”.
