The Trump administration is proceeding with a plan to allow compounding pharmacies to produce certain peptides, a class of largely unregulated injections that have become popular among followers of U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other wellness influencers, the Associated Press notes. The peptides under consideration have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as safe or effective, and most of the data on peptides come from animal studies.
China is looking to tighten biotechnology exports, but will leave the door open for licensing deals with foreign drugmakers that have underpinned its position as a growing pharmaceutical powerhouse, Bloomberg Law reports. Beijing is proposing to add five biomedical technologies to its export-control list, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce. The draft proposal includes two types of cutting-edge medical technology platforms to treat diseases at a genetic level. But the list clarifies that restrictions don’t apply to licensing, partnerships, and contract research services involving these technologies.
