Leanna Stokes had gotten into the habit of asking her oncologist what might be next for her treatment, and for good reason. Stokes, a 36-year-old gymnastics manager from New Rochelle, New York, had received one of the most difficult diagnoses in oncology: metastatic pancreatic cancer. Her oncologist kept mentioning two syllables, KAY-ras, referring to her cancer’s mutation on the KRAS gene. Mutations in this gene can make cancers more aggressive. But for Stokes, it was a possible key to extending her life. “She always mentioned this — KRAS, KRAS, KRAS,” Stokes said of her oncologist. As Stokes proceeded to receive…
Iran said Saturday that it has reimposed the closure of the Strait of Hormuz less than a day after reopening it to shipping traffic, but President Donald Trump warned that Tehran could not blackmail the U.S. by shutting the waterway. The strait is closed until the U.S. blockade is lifted, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard navy said, warning that «no vessel should make any movement from its anchorage in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, and approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered as cooperation with the enemy» and be targeted. Two gunboats from the Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a tanker transiting the strait, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade…

The U.S. and Japan confirmed the launches, saying they were fired toward the East Sea, which is also known as the Sea of Japan.»Detailed specifications are currently under close analysis by South Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities,» officials in Seoul said in a…
As the Democrats attempt to supplant and replace Donald Trump and the Republicans in the 2026 and 2028 elections, lesson number one should be: Don’t counter Trump’s maximalist policies with maximalism of your own on the issues that got the party into trouble in the 2016 and 2024 elections-especially immigration. Unfortunately, California gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer, the frontrunner after Eric Swalwell’s ignominious withdrawal from the race, has not learned this lesson.
By Chris Snellgrove | Published 1 hour ago What was the first episode of Star Trek? That’s actually something of a trick question: not only did The Original Series have an early pilot with (except for Leonard Nimoy) completely different actors, but producers shot episodes in a different order than they were originally shown on television. That first pilot (“The Cage”) would later have some of its footage reused in “The Menagerie” before being released as a separate episode. Meanwhile, “The Man Trap” became the first Star Trek episode that fans saw on television. It’s a very solid sci-fi adventure…

Manny Pacquiao has recalled the pre-fight routine which, in his view, contributed to him retiring from the sport. At the start of the decade, the Filipino was coming off a pair of points victories over Keith Thurman and Adrien Broner, successfully defending his WBA world title on both occasions. In doing so, he was widely regarded as one of the leading fighters at 147lbs, only to then experience over two years of inactivity following his closely-contested encounter with Thurman.Upon his return, Pacquiao may have been forgiven for facing a less formidable opponent, but he instead attempted to defend his title against Yordenis…

Five days after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot activist Renee Good, tensions were running high in the Minneapolis neighborhood where she was killed. As federal immigration agents surrounded and questioned a man whose car they had stopped, people emerged from their homes onto the snow-lined sidewalks and street. They shouted obscenities, told the agents to leave and filmed what was happening on their phones. A crew from FRONTLINE and ProPublica was filming, too. The man being questioned, a U.S. citizen named Christian Molina, told ProPublica reporter A.C. Thompson that federal agents had followed him and rammed his…
After years of heated debates among fire officials, scientists and local advocates, California’s Board of Forestry and Fire Protection released new proposed landscaping rules for fire-prone areas Friday that outline what residents can and can’t do within the first 5 feet of their homes. Many of these proposed rules — designed to reduce the risk of a home burning down amid a wildfire — have wide support (or at least acceptance); however, the most contentious by far has been whether the state would allow healthy plants in the zone. Many fire officials and safety advocates have essentially argued anything that can burn,…
