President Trump claimed in a post on his Truth Social network on Wednesday that Iran’s president had «just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!»Mr. Trump said Iran’s «New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors,» had requested the ceasefire. Iran currently has the same president it’s had since July 2024, however, when President Masoud Pezeshkian took office. Several days ago, President Donald Trump threatened to strike Iranian power plants if free transit wasn’t allowed through the Strait of Hormuz. That potent threat was subsequently delayed with a new deadline of April 6, although new threats may make strikes against energy targets more imminent. President Donald Trump in the early days of the war said the U.S. Navy would take…

The Trump administration official leading an effort to loosen rules on methane pollution was an unnamed author of key industry arguments against those same rules just four years ago when he was an oil and gas lobbyist. Aaron Szabo, an assistant administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency, is listed in PDF metadata as the author of a January 2022 comment letter objecting to proposed controls on methane emissions in the oil and gas industry. The letter was submitted to the EPA by the American Exploration and Production Council, which represents some of the industry’s largest emitters of the planet-warming gas,…

But it changed in complex ways, some temporary (such as the frontloading of US imports in response to the threat of high tariffs), some likely to be permanent (such as the decline in direct trade between the US and China) and some in between (such as the boom in AI-related trade). Nevertheless, global trade in goods, the products targeted by the tariffs, has been strikingly robust, according to Geopolitics and the geometry…
