D.C. pipe bomb suspect wants a presidential pardon

The Virginia man accused of laying pipe bombs at the Republican and Democratic national headquarters on the eve of Jan. 6, 2021, said he deserves the same clemency for his actions that rioters at the U.S. Capitol received.

Attorneys for suspect Brian Cole said their client fits the narrative the White House used to pardon the roughly 1,500 people charged in the incident more than five years ago.

Mr. Cole’s legal team said his alleged actions were based on issues with the 2020 election that motivated those same people during the Capitol attack.

“Brian Cole’s conduct is so inextricably and demonstrably tethered to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, that he must be pardoned pursuant to applicable Presidential Pardon of January 20, 2025,” according to court documents filed by the defendant’s legal team.
