It was a week of emotional goodbyes for my 18-year-old daughter as she left home for university. She had a family barbecue, a bonfire night with her besties, a big hug with her dog, and finally a tearful farewell at the airport with her younger sister. I think I was the only one who didn’t cry. After all, the end goal of having children is not, in fact, to be close with them at all times, but to successfully see them launched into the world as vibrant, resilient, and courageous adults. I was certain my daughter would land on her feet.
