Rapper Kodak Black arrested in Florida on MDMA trafficking charge

Florida rapper Kodak Black was booked into the Orange County Jail on Wednesday on a drug trafficking charge, the latest legal trouble for the Pompano Beach performer who has faced repeated arrests in recent years.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, faces a felony charge of trafficking in MDMA — the synthetic stimulant commonly known as ecstasy — stemming from a November 2025 investigation by Orlando police, according to an arrest warrant reviewed by Local 10 News. Jail records show he is being held without bond and was expected to appear before a judge Thursday. Under Florida Statute 893.135, trafficking 10 grams or more of MDMA is a first-degree felony carrying a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

The arrest stems from a November 2025 incident outside the Children’s Safety Village, a nonprofit organization on Fairvilla Road in Orlando that teaches children about personal safety. Orlando police had responded to reports of gunfire at the location and found a BMW SUV and a Lamborghini SUV parked outside. Detecting the smell of cannabis, officers searched the BMW and discovered a pink bag containing approximately 25 grams of material that later tested positive for MDMA, along with roughly $37,000 in cash and documents bearing Kapri’s name, the warrant states.

During the search, Kapri approached officers and watched the proceedings. Although he and others at the scene denied ownership of the bag, he tried multiple times to have officers hand him the cash, claiming it belonged to his business, according to the warrant. Investigators also linked items found in the vehicle, including a pink pair of scissors and rings, to photos on Kapri’s Instagram account.

His attorney, Bradford Cohen, told TMZ the arrest was a coordinated surrender and that the original search involved a vehicle containing a passenger who was not his client. Mr. Cohen said a bottle of prescription cough syrup bearing Kapri’s fingerprint was among the items found and described the trafficking charge as having a “weak legal basis.”

Wednesday’s arrest is far from Kapri’s first encounter with law enforcement. In December 2023, he was booked into the Broward County Jail on charges of cocaine possession, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, probation violation and improper parking — though the drug count was later dismissed after a sheriff’s crime lab determined the substance was oxycodone, for which Kapri held a valid prescription. The probation violation charge arose from his failure to appear for mandatory drug tests connected to a separate 2022 case. That year, Florida Highway Patrol troopers pulled him over in Fort Lauderdale and found 31 oxycodone tablets and nearly $75,000 in cash, leading to charges of oxycodone trafficking and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

His most significant prior legal entanglement came at the federal level. On his final day in office, Jan. 20, 2021, President Trump commuted Kapri’s 46-month federal prison sentence, which had been imposed in November 2019 after he pleaded guilty to falsifying information on federal firearms purchase forms to acquire four guns.

Kodak Black, born June 11, 1997, in Pompano Beach, rose to national prominence through a series of mixtapes and singles, including “Tunnel Vision,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Zeze,” a 2018 collaboration with Travis Scott and Offset that reached No. 2.
