Trump Offers $1,000,000 Voter Fraud Bounty

All around America, voters are fed up with the short-sighted, destructive policies of Donald Trump’s second administration. But rather than addressing those concerns, the president today decided to try a new tactic in shifting the balance of America’s fragile democracy: offering a boat load of cash to anyone who could catch a fraud.

In a Truth Social post on Monday afternoon, Trump said that “anybody reporting Voter Fraud in the past Elections, or the upcoming 2026 Midterm Election, will be paid $1,000,000 upon the arrest and conviction of those that created the Fraud!”

Rolling Stone reached out to the White House for more information, such as where the million-dollar bounty or bounties would come from, and whether the Trump administration has examples of prior cases that would fit the criteria. “Refer to the TRUTH,” a White House press officer replied.

Voter fraud cases are extremely rare. In the 2020 election, for instance, an Associated Press investigation found fewer than 475 potential cases of fraud across six battleground states, a figure that, even if all were confirmed, would not have changed the outcome of the presidential election in any way.

But in recent weeks, the Trump administration has once again been focusing on potential fraud as a way to agitate conservative voters and cast doubt on the overall legitimacy of unfavorable elections, like Trump’s 2020 defeat. Earlier this month, the DOJ indicted 10 non-U.S. citizens, including one undocumented immigrant, for allegedly voting in the 2024 election in North Carolina, a state that Trump won by almost 200,000 votes.

It’s unclear if the federal government has set up any sort of system for reporting or identifying voter fraud. Without a robust bureaucratic system for processing these cases, it’s unlikely that even a $1,000,000 bounty will result in any kind of statistically significant wave of convictions — especially as there just don’t appear to be any real number of people committing the crime.

Instead, Trump’s latest statement is only really useful as a way to front-run a loss in the 2026 midterms, and to claim that, if his party loses, they were undone by nefarious forces and not the results of their own policies. Unless tens of thousands of people suddenly decide to commit a crime that almost nobody ever commits, Trump’s latest proclamation will go down as just another fraudulent claim.
