The news media would have you believe that the developed world is in the grip of glp-1 mania. Pundits and doctors have published editorials warning that wegovy pills are about to cause an anorexia nervosa epidemic, while fashionistas are predicting the end of the plus-size clothing industry. But is it really a concern? How many people are staying the course? Have you noticed how carefully Wegovy describes their results? It’s a hint that things might not be as they seem and researchers are now probing semaglutide discontinuation rates. Are we all hooked on GLP-1 RAs? According to Danish researchers, the startling…

No one knows for sure how things might change during the upcoming college football season, but early indications are that the 2027 NFL Draft will be the strongest in years. Quarterbacks — such as Texas’ Arch Manning, Oregon’s Dante Moore and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin — have dominated the early buzz because, well, they’re quarterbacks brimming with talent and potential. But the beauty of next year’s draft class is that it could offer several franchise-altering prospects at other positions, as well. I’ve ranked the top 10 non-QBs heading into the season and, as you’d expect, all of them have a realistic chance…

MADRID — In crowded subway cars and sun-drenched plazas, an old-fashioned accessory in Spain has been everywhere thanks to the blistering summer heat.Small enough to fit into a purse, the traditional Spanish folding hand fan, or abanico, snaps open into a semicircle. With little more than a flick of the wrist, it creates a surprisingly strong breeze. As successive heat waves in Western Europe pushed temperatures this summer to punishing levels, the accessory has become essential, embraced by the young and old from Spain and elsewhere. Women — and a growing number of men — unfurl them on public transport, at…

For more than a year now, I’ve been investigating how youth sports organizations have failed to protect kids from sexual abuse, and the gaps in the system that have allowed coaches banned for misconduct to keep working with young athletes.  So far, I’ve shown that one major nonprofit sports organization, the Amateur Athletic Union, has become a haven for coaches accused of abuse. I identified eight coaches who are still working with kids under the AAU despite having been banned by SafeSport, a center created by Congress to protect kids from abuse in sports that has a public list anyone…

Last week, I highlighted how it was interesting and unexpected that Lanterns elected to separate both Hal Jordan and John Stewart so early on in the season. Episode three must’ve anticipated this reaction and said, “hold my beer”, giving us a flashback-heavy episode that provides us with a lot of backstory for John. Told non-linearly over multiple different periods in time, we got some much-needed answers and context for John’s role as a Lantern in training. Lanterns’ third episode dials the clock back and gives us a lot of focus on John Stewart, how he was chosen to be a…
